1. Who we are

DisplaceIndex (displaceindex.com) is an independent data project that tracks AI-driven job displacement pressure in the US labor market. We are not affiliated with any employer, government agency, union, or political organisation.

2. What data we collect

DisplaceIndex does not require you to create an account and does not collect personally identifiable information (PII) during normal browsing.

We may collect the following data automatically:

  • Analytics data — page views, session duration, referral source, browser type, and approximate geographic region (country/city level), collected via Google Analytics. This data is aggregated and used only to improve the site.
  • Technical logs — server access logs including IP address, request path, and timestamp. These are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.
  • Cookie preferences — your cookie consent choice is stored in your browser's local storage to avoid showing the banner on every visit.

We do not collect: payment information, government IDs, health data, or any sensitive personal categories.

3. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

Essential cookies

Required for the site to function. These cannot be disabled. They include session management and security tokens.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics)

Used to understand how visitors interact with the site. Collects anonymised usage data. You can opt out by selecting "Essential only" in our cookie banner, or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. How we use your data

  • To understand site usage and improve content and performance.
  • To detect and prevent security incidents and abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Third-party services

DisplaceIndex uses the following third-party services which may set their own cookies or process data:

  • Google Analytics — web analytics. Data processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — hosting and CDN. Data processed in accordance with Vercel's Privacy Policy.
  • FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis), NewsAPI, Reddit — data sources used to compute the index. These services are accessed server-side; your browser does not interact with them directly.

6. Data retention

Analytics data is retained in accordance with Google Analytics defaults (up to 26 months). Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Cookie preference data is stored in your browser until you clear it.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal data. Because we collect minimal personal data, most requests can be fulfilled by clearing your browser cookies and local storage.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
